Two years already

Today is Chris and my two year anniversary. It has been a wonderful year for us. I will admit it isn't always easy but it is amazing at how much love can grow over just one year.

There are a few huge changes that have happened for us since we got married:
-I graduated from college
-Chris got a job in Colorado Springs
-We moved to Colorado Springs
-As soon as we got here, we found out I was pregnant
-We had our wonderful baby, Dallin Thomas Davenport

In the next year we hope that Chris graduates, we move to Maryland and we buy a house. Those are the big things that we would really like to happen.

It has been a wonderful two years and I look forward to so many more with the most wonderful guy ever!

Sew crazy!

I have the most wonderful husband in all the world. He is so great to our son and he indulges me in so many things! I will post a picture tomorrow of us on our wedding day since tomorrow is our two year anniversary but today I just wanted to do a post because I am so proud of my baby and me!

When Dallin and I came back from Maryland I was able to put him in his little bouncy chair or prop him up on the couch and so I had that octopus and he started grabbing it! it made me so excited to see how he was grabbing things so well! He still hasn't grasped the concept that his fists always have to be open before grabbing but he is getting better. He is also almost about to roll onto his tummy from his back. I think he gets close and realizes what he is about to do and stops because he doesn't like tummy time. And another great big news, Dallin slept for 10 WHOLE HOURS last night! It was amazing! He didn't wake up once. He jsut slept the night through and he would have kept sleeping but I had to wake him up to get ready for church. He wasn't very happy. But that is a status update on my amazing 3 month old boy!

Chris took this picture today. I was sewing in Dallins room and Chris put him to sleep on our bed and when he laid Dallin down, Dallin kept his head staring straight up at the ceiling. It looked really funny and uncomfortable.

I wanted to post pictures of me and Chris with Dallin and so this is my cute picture with him. I am immodestly dressed because I had been in the sun the day before and burned my back really badly and so I couldn't wear any shirts that covered my back and shoulders. I will never learn...

This is my amazing husband who I love so much who puts Dallin to sleep every night. Chris walks around our downstairs for about half an hour every night putting Dallin to sleep. He couild fall asleep in his crib but Chris likes to walk Dallin around and watch him as he falls asleep and then when it is an hour and a half after his last feeding I take him upstairs and top him off and stick him in his crib for the night. It seems to work since Dallin sleeps so well at night!

And now for the part that I am proud of! This is Dallins second diaper cover that I have sewn. I didn't get a good picture of the first one and it was all ivory anyway so I did this one and got a good picture of it. It didn't turn out as well as the first one since I did the gussets differently. I am experimenting to see what works best on the gussets but it looks a lot better because it has two colors. I like that. It didn't even take me too long to make!

This is the cover on Dallin so you can see how big it is on him. It is still on the smallest snap size on the small diaper. He is such a skinny boy... I am sure lots of babies are chubby and so they move up in the snap size but not my baby!

I went to JoAnns yesterday and they were having a big sale this weekend and so I bought some stuff. I got the fabric on the left because I thought it was really cute and I thought it would make a really cute dress for a little girl and I am also going to learn how to applique and so I thought some of the squares would look cute on Dallins onesies that are plain. We shall see how it looks. And then the fabric on the right is for...

New pillow covers for our couch! I hate the way our living room looks because it is really boring and uninteresting. Also, I don't like the way our couch looks. Chris said the color was better when it was new but due to the use it has gotten the color has turned poopy looking. I saw the striped fabric and thought it would go well with our couch so I just had to buy it and I really like how the pillow turned out. I took the plastic tubing stuff out from one of the pillow cover and the zipper and used them to make the new pillow cover and I love it! I think it adds a lot to our couch and helps it look not so ugly!

I have really started to enjoy sewing and I have been looking online at all the neat things I could make and so I am slowly working my way through a very large list of things I want to do. The pillow covers were an easy project so I started there but I have other things I want to make like an advent calendar, seat covers and so much more! So, if you are interested in what I make, stay tuned for all the neat things I will be making (in addition to my diaper covers)!

Maryland Part 2

I split up the blog post so people wouldn't get lost in how much I am putting on! I had a good time in Maryland and don't want to leave anything out!

This is Carter, as I had said before. He was so cute because anytime he was around he would ask "can I hold him!?!" and he was always so excited. We almost didn't even get to say goodbye to him because we were stuck in traffic on the way back from the lake but we made it just in time because I didn't want Carter to leave for his Moms without me and Dallin saying goodbye.

This is a nasty, creepy bug that lives in Peggys basement. Chris coined the term spricket and he thought he was such a genius for naming them that because they look like a spider but jump like a cricket. I looked spricket up online and it is actually a camel cricket that likes basements. Isn't it creepy? Peggy killed the huge buggar one night and left it on the stairs so I could see it. I got really creeped out by it and hated to go down into the basement from that point on, especially when the spricket was on the stairs. Thankfully I cleaned it up so I wouldn't have to look at it anymore. Ick!

Grandma and Grandad White are busy people during the summer with all the grand kids who like to come visit and so we couldn't go down for very long but we got to drive down for a few hours with them. Whenever we are there we always play lots of games and that day we played Tripoly. Peggy kept calling it Michigan Rummy and I had no idea what that was but I knew what Tripoly was! This is Dallin playing with Granny Peg. He did really well even though I kept asking him to tell me her cards. He was a happy boy that day because he had slept most of the drive and even took a good nap there!

This is Grandma and Grandad. Grandad isn't big on holding babies so Peggy always tries to get him to hold her grand kids. I just wanted a picture of Dallin with them so that Chris could see what we had done on our trip!

This is Jess. She is the one due in December and she is always practicing on being a mommy with other peoples babies so this is her at Red Robins holding Dallin.

This is Jan and Alex. Jan did an internship in Virginia and Alex flew out to drive home with her and they stopped by to have dinner before they drove back to Indiana. It was nice to see them and spend some time with them.

While at Red Robin Peggy wanted to see if Dallin would eat fries so she stuck them in his little fists and he started to suck on his fists like crazy. We concluded that he is like his daddy and likes salt. Trying to get all the little bits of fry out of his hand proved to be somewhat difficult.

And because I like humor, I got Dallin to hold my hamburger after "he" had taken a bite out of it. I think this is one of my favorite pictures.

One evening we went out to Tom Hartsocks farm and had dinner with him. I like farm animals and so I had to take pictures of Dallin with all the animalsI wanted Dallin to get a horse ride. I know he can't ride one by himself but I held him on it. He wasn't too happy because he was hungry but it made for a good time at the farm!

These are the goats. There were like 30 or more goats there. I can still remember the days when Dallin would cry like a goat... so cute! There were also burros but we didn't get a good picture with them due to the electrified fence.

So that was our trip to Maryland. We had a great time and I really enjoyed it because I haven't really spent much time in Maryland with that side of the family and so it was nice to finally get to know Chris' brother and sister and families better. It made me less apprehensive about moving out to Maryland as well, when we finally get to that point. I definitely feel more like they are family now that I know them all a lot better!

Maryland Part 1

In June Dallin, Chris and I went up to Alaska so that my family could meet Dallin and so that we could have a DeKay family reunion and it was so nice to be able to do that. Once we got back to Colorado Springs Peggy asked if Dallin and I would come out and visit her family. We waited a while so that Dallin could readjust but then off to Maryland we went! It was somewhat of a last minute trip but I am really glad we could take it.

We left on August 5th, the day after my birthday. Chris was so wonderful to me on my birthday. He brought me breakfast in bed, we had lunch together, he watched Dallin when he got home but most of all, he encouraged me to work on my birthday present to myself! I have been wanting a nice diaper bag for some time and I wanted one big enough that I could put my stuff in it as well and so when I was buying fleece a while ago I found this cute pattern for a bag that works so well as a diaper bag! The day before my birthday Dallin and I bought the fabric that I wanted for the bag and then all day on my birthday I sewed the bag. You can't really see it but the fabric on the inside is my favorite. I really like it. Unfortunately while I was at Peggys I washed the bag to get rid of Kaida-fur (Jan's dog) and there is a canvas layer and I didn't think the canvas would shrink so much so now it is kinda scrunched on that inside layer but it still works great. I spent like 8 hours on it, trying to get the stitches right but the hardest thing was the applique on the front of the bag but I love it! I think I am even going to make myself another one in a while... just for fun! And add more pockets...

Anyway, we got to Maryland and Katie, Natalie and Anthony, Rogers wife and kids, picked us up at the airport and then we went to their house. Tom came over for dinner and Dallin was really tired and fussy so he doesn't look too happy in this picture but that is Tom and Dallin!

A couple of times we went to the park with Katie and the kids. They live just down the road from the elementary school and so we go play on the playground. Katie was holding Dallin and I guess at some point his face was in the sun because he got his first sun burn! I was going to start applying sun screen but Peggy looked it up that before 6 months you aren't supposed to put sun screen on babies because it is absorbed and becomes toxic in the blood. So he just had to tough out the sun!

The night we got to Maryland Peggy went with us to the playground and she was holding Dallin and swinging on the swing and it put him out! He was so tired and had cried quite a bit while at Katie's house because he hadn't had a good nap all day but Grandma definitely had the soothing touch for Dallin and he passed out and stayed that way until we left to go to Peggy's house where Dallin and I slept.

One day Katie and her kids and me and Dallin went duck pin bowling. I had never even heard of it but it wasn't too bad. I wasn't all that great and even with bumpers, I still managed to get gutter balls... I am amazing! I had pictures of both Natalie and Anthony but unfortunately EVERY picture I had of Natalie turned out blurry so I will have to get some from Katie some day. We had a cute one of Dallin with the ball in his car seat with him but that is on Katie's camera. Anthony was funny while bowling because he would throw the ball and then stay in the exact same position until it hit the pins. And he threw some slooooow balls so he would stand still for quite some time.

This is Jess, Russ and Carter. Jess is currently expecting and is due December 21. Hopefully "Scooter" will be born by the time we get there for Christmas. Scooter is what Carter calls the baby while it is in Jess' belly since they aren't finding out if it is a boy or girl.

I wanted to see everyone while we were in Maryland and so we had dinner at Toms one night and Grandma and Grandad Davenport were there.

Grandma loved to hold Dallin. Thankfully he was in a pretty good mood that night so she didn't mind holding him. I don't know why but when he starts to cry no one seems to want to hold him. Not even me! haha. By this point I was starting to get tired because Chris wasn't there and so I had to deal with Dallin all the time unless Peggy was around but I still felt bad asking her to take my fussy child...

Another night Peggy took me out. Everyone seems to really like this restaurant called the Bonefish Grill and it is pretty good. I believe it is in cahoots with Outback Steak house but I definitely like the Bonefish side. They have this stuff called Bang-bang shrimp that is really good. Since Peggy can't eat gluten I got it all to myself! Dallin was so tired that we never even had to unbuckle him from his seat, he just fell asleep with the low lights and the hum of conversation. What a cute boy.

While we were there Peggy wanted to get her nails done and I wanted to get a pedicure. I have never gotten one and it was wonderful! I enjoy having Chris rub my feet but man... a pedicure is so much better! Too bad you have to pay for them but Chris is free! While my feet were getting done Peggy took Dallin, who had just woken up and eaten and was "beating" his bum. His eyes look big in this picture like what the heck is this lady doing to me Mommy!?

Here in Maryland

Well, I just wanted to let everyone know what Dallin, Chris and I are up to. Dallin and I left for Maryland on Wednesday and have been here visiting Chris's family and have really enjoyed it. I have never spent much time with his family due to the fact that we were in school and its expensive to fly frequently, but here we are now! At least, Dallin and I are. Chris had to stay home and work due to lack of vacation days. We used them almost all up to go to Alaska to go camping. Soon though he will have more and we will save them up for the Christmas break when we come to Maryland. At least I believe that is the plan.

Dallin and I have had a really good time so far. We really miss being home and seeing Chris but we have fun to. I have learned that Dallin loves to be bounced on the air mattress I am sleeping on. He smiles and I have actually hear REAL GIGGLES from him when I am bouncing him! He is also getting used to a schedule here sort of... Since we aren't always around the house at nap time it still throws him off but he does okay for the most part. We have been seeing Chris's family while we are here. We are staying with Peggy and have enjoyed that except for the fact that there is dog hair around the house and I keep finding it on Dallin and in his mouth and nose and clothes and diapers and man... dog hair is like sand! It gets everywhere! Thankfully we won't have a dog here tomorrow since Russ and Jess are back from Disneyland and will be taking Riley, Roger and family's dog, while they are at the beach. Also, without Riley around Dallin will be able to lay on the ground agian and I am very happy about that.

So last week we spend time with Rogers family until they left and this week we will spend some time with Russ' family and we are going to the lake to see Peggy's parents one day and maybe will even go see the other grand parents but I don't know when that would happen so we shall see! Anyway, we are having a great time and enjoying the lesser heat of Maryland but not so much liking the more humid air. It does feel much cooler than Colorado Springs though!
